Mary Kostakidis Says She’s Not Antisemitic… Then Shares This

Back in December of last year, I exposed Australian journalist Mary Kostakidis’ appalling display of antisemitism.

Since then, she has landed herself in more hot water, facing a racial discrimination complaint in the Federal Court for posts on X about lsrael and/or Jews. These posts have spread and endorsed antisemitic conspiracy theories, including that “lsrael has control of, or significant influence over, the US Congress, the US Government, the US military, the US media, UK politics and the narrative in the Western World (including Australia).” The claim also references a specific post of hers from, in which she shared on X a video of a speech by the late Hezbollah arch terrorist Hassan Nasrallah, and added: “The Israeli govt getting some of its own medicine. Israel has started something it can’t finish with this genocide.”

For her part, Kostakidis claims she was “just reporting,” and is trying to make it a free speech issue.

But Kostakidis on Sunday night described the complaint as an attempt “to silence people like myself”.

Kostakidis said the complaint was “completely misconstruing” her posts sharing the speech.

“Of course, I wasn’t promoting it. I was informing people. That’s what I’m supposed to do,” she told Guardian Australia.

“As a journalist, it’s my responsibility to show people what one side is saying. Is it not in our interests to know that?”

Alas, it seems poor Mary cannot control her piehole, even during the legal proceedings. Earlier today she shared this video by ex Australian FM Bob Carr, in which he engaged in the antisemitic trope of a powerful Jewish lobby:

Note how Kostakidis refers to the “Israel Lobby” in her tweet, even though Carr explicitly references the Israel Jewish lobby. I’m not sure if that was deliberate to try and shield herself from more accusations of antisemitism, but either way, it is clear Carr’s comments do cross the line.

It is also clear Kostakidis was not just “reporting” Carr’s comments but agreeing with them.

And there you have it. Kostakidis can cry “just reporting” all she likes, but the mask keeps slipping. When you repeatedly amplify terrorists and politicians pushing classic antisemitic tropes – and nod along – you’re not reporting, you’re endorsing.

The Federal Court will decide whether she has broken the law, but in the court of public opinion, Mary has already delivered the verdict on herself.
