Back in April, I exposed Abarai Mido, the owner of the Sinamon cafe chain in Perth, Western Australia, as a terrorist supporter who was also dehumanizing “Zionists.” He later gloated when Iran was firing rockets at Israel, tagging me in his post.
Following my posts, members of the Jewish community in Perth contacted me to say how they used to frequent Sinamon but would now boycott it and spread the word. As for Mido, I got so inside his head, he posted about me.
I suspect he is not going to like this post either.
You see, Mido thought it a good idea to post the below in response to Avi Yemini exposing the owner of Juniper Salon, who had refused to cut the hair of an Israeli client:
Besides the falsehood of this post (Avi did not frame the bigoted salon owner), there seems to be an implied threat of violence if Avi were to visit his establishment.
But more than that, he is bragging about banning Zionists (which include over 90% of Jews) from his stores. That is illegal.
In Western Australia it’s unlawful to discriminate based on political conviction when providing goods, services or facilities. “Zionist” describes a political belief, so refusing entry or service on that basis would generally breach the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA).
It might also breach the federal Racial Discrimination Act 1975, which makes it unlawful to refuse goods or services because of race, colour, national or ethnic origin (s 13).
Perth is better than this. If a shop draws a red line through “Zionists,” it’s drawing one through most Jews – and through Perth’s anti-discrimination laws.
