Millions of Iranian are furious – furious I tell you – over a video.
And no, it is not a video relating to Israel, aka “little Satan”, but rather a video of a simple wedding.
Ok, not so simple. Quite lavish actually.
The daughter of Ali Shamkhani one of the Islamic Republic’s top enforcers had a lavish wedding in a strapless dress. Meanwhile, women in Iran are beaten for showing their hair and young people can’t afford to marry. This video made millions of Iranian furious. That’s Ali Shamkhani, a political advisor of the Supreme Leader of Iran since 2023, walking his lovely daughter down the aisle. This has really angered so many Iranians, given women in Iran are beaten for showing their hair and young people can’t afford to marry.
Besides being an advisor to the Supreme Leader, Ali Shamkhani was Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) from 2013–2023. During and after the 2022 Mahsa Amini uprising, when Iran doubled down on compulsory-hijab enforcement, these measures weren’t publicly branded as “Shamkhani’s plan,” but fell squarely in the SNSC’s remit under his watch.
And the icing on the (wedding) cake? Only last week Iranian authorities announced plans to deploy 80,000 trained personnel to enforce hijab rules.
That’s a whole lot of do as I say and not as I do right there.
So to recap: a man who helped terrorize women for showing a strand of hair now beams with pride as his own daughter walks down the aisle, unveiled and in a strapless dress, at a millionaire’s wedding. In Iran, hypocrisy doesn’t just wear a veil – it issues them.
I should also note that this past June, Shamkhani was severely injured in an Israeli airstrike. Initial reports mistakenly claimed he had been killed, but he later reappeared in public.
He probably wishes he didn’t.
