140 Character – What’s In A Flag

You may recall how in last year’s UEFA Champions League Final, someone put up an Israeli flag on the center line for the whole world to see, and for some Twitterers to express their dislike antisemitism.

Well, it happened again on Saturday at the Champions League final.

There will be a thousand Rigby’s soon. Good luck with that.

I’m pretty sure Daniel Jacobs tweet is actually pro Israel. He’s giving a reason to like Dortmund and their fans.

      That was my impression too.

    Soccer…(sigh)

All you can come up with after reading all that filth is “soccer”??? The hatred expressed had nothing whatsoever to do with soccer!!!!

Someone needs to kill the bug that’s shoved up your ass. You’ll feel a whole lot better afterwards.

There’s no reason to get nasty. You just have absolutely no idea what it is like to live in Israel and know its real history, yet have to listen to someone like yourself. You sit in your ivory tower making your comments based on a false “history” that you got from anti-Israel propaganda media such as Ha’aretz. (You said yourself that you read it for many years and only stopped reading it recently and you didn’t stop because you learned that they publish deliberate lies about Israel.)

I have been a historian of Israel’s history in the 19th and 20th centuries for about 40 years and have written and published many articles and commentaries. (I have a feeling that you haven’t been alive for 40 years.) I have also suggested on several occasions that you actually check what I, and several others including Aussie Dave, wrote for yourself. I’d give you some URL’s, but I doubt very much if you would read them.

I certainly hope, that if you decide to reply to this comment, you will leave off the insults and vulgarity. This blog is one of my favorite sites, and I intend to keep on coming here, so please refrain from insults in the future.

I apologize for the bug comment. But you do come across as very uptight sometimes. My “soccer” comment was my way of showing disdain for this whole history of racist, homophobic, anti-Semitic, ultra-nationalist behavior that seems to breakout among soccer fans all too often.

I defend news organizations like Ha’aretz and the N Y Times that I find are reliable sources of information, not for their editorial point of view. If sources such as Fox News and Arutz Sheva didn’t have an obvious agenda in their news content and therefore are sources of information I consider as unreliable, I would lay off of them.

You’ve given me what I take to be friendly advice, now let me do the same for you. Try to have some fun at this site. I know AussieDave and the other contributors certainly do. It’s not like there is a constant focus that the anti-Semites are at Israel’s throat every minute of every day. Laugh and the whole world laughs with you. Be a humorless nitpicker and people make bug comments.

I do not know anything about soccer or football as it is called in Europe. So I do not see any reason why someone would wave the Israeli flag during a competition? Were there Israeli players in the field, to encourage them?
If there was no good reason, then I think it was just provocation or silliness.

Just as I do not like that Israel is often mentioned in articles, like everything is the cause of Israel, blame Israel etc., I also do not like it when Israel is pushed by somebody where it is not appropriate.
