The Tall Tale Of The Teacher’s Tame Terrorist

I tried to write a blog post about failure of the media in reporting the Global Prize winning teacher Hanan Al Hroub. But it became a rant. So I videoed it.

I’d love to hear constructive criticism of this form of expression. Do you like it? What could be better? Would you like to see me do more of this kind of thing? I’m open to suggestions.

  1. Great video; you’re a natural!
Comments… I find it difficult to watch long videos when at the office, quicker to read an article. Also subtitles a bit distracting, often inaccurate as well as being a bit redundant.
But this is just nit-picking – Israellycool is the best blog out there for this kind of thing, it always seems to finds a slightly different angle and the writing quality is very high. Looking forward to seeing you speak in London on 5th May.

  2. Great speaking voice. And like most Americans, I just assume you know what you’re talking about given that you speak with that authoritative British accent. More of the same, please, Brian.

  3. I enjoyed this very much. It was nice to put on earphones and wash the dishes while you ranted. The music at the end was especially appropriate. Oh yes, and about content — keep doing the investigative journalism that you are doing over there guys. Impressive.

  4. The English subscript on the bottom is woeful, not just this video but others on this website. How hard can it be to find someone that can actually transcribe English properly?

  5. I like it… and have some general comments. (very random)
I often get interviewed by trade journals… they are on my side and have no reason to lie….. however, its gotten to the point where I refuse all interviews unless given a draft for my review, and subject to my approval prior to publishing… and even at this, they have never once reported accurately.
Secondly, I have never seen media be cooperative with any entities who criticize them.
Otherwise, mass distribution and redistribution of information through smartly named organizations with the aspiration of migrating to reputable outlets is the hallmark of the left… all quoting each other and regurgitation the same points…. plus, it seems ‘journalists’ these day are all about virtue signalling.. they seem to be activists who believe their work is changing the world. Most poignant and recent example would be all the media at the Paris Climate Conference… when it was announced that a ‘deal’ was struck, none of them got out their notepads and cameras… rather, they jumped up out of their seats and cheered… high-fived each other.. they were in glee !
So to note the general incompetence and inaccuracy of typical media outlets, it’s very obvious and occurs for many reasons.
For this video in particular, yes, I like it… enemies of Israel have a thousand different misguided motivations… extreme right, general left, and islamic based are common, so it would make sense to have a counter also in various styles… I personally do not care for emotional triggers, and prefer just the facts (such as the ‘know you history’ series)… but I do note that facts, no matter how stark, have no effect on many bigots…. a more emotional appeal would likely suit younger lefties…. to summarize, horses for courses…. so long as nothing is posted that is easily debunked of obviously false, it’s all good.
