Reader Post: Israelis Falsely Claim Ancient Palestinian Bread As Their Own Says Abbas

matzahFollowing hot on the heels of a dispute where Palestinians claimed the vast majority of Israeli dishes were in fact ancient Palestinian recipes ‘stolen by the Zionists’ comes a whole new controversy.

The Palestinian Authority is now claiming that an unleavened flat bread which features as part of the Jewish Festival of Passover is in fact Palestinian.

“This holy bread was originally called Matz Halal, which the Zionist occupiers stole and shortened to Matzah” said a Palestinian spokesperson, “it has been baked by the Imams for thousands of years and personally distributed to every Palestinian home to celebrate the ancient Festival of Pash Akbar.”

When asked why the bread was so flat, the spokesperson explained that, in ancient times, Palestinians would undertake extremely long journeys. Matz Halal, as well as being easier to transport, would keep fresh for months on end.

“This really is the final straw” he continued,  “Israelis are literally stealing the bread from our children’s mouths. We’ll be taking this to both the UN and the International Criminal Court and have asked the EU to impose a ban on the import of all so-called Matzah products.”

When asked to comment, an Israeli spokesperson issued the following statement :

“This is simply the latest in a long list of absurd claims by the Palestinian Authority. Matzah is and has been eaten by the Jewish people at Passover for thousands of years. It was first baked by our ancestors to be carried on their hurried escape from slavery in ancient Egypt, when they could not wait for the dough to rise.

It symbolises freedom for Jews everywhere. At Passover, we read from a book called a Haggadah, eat Matzah for 8 days and sing a song called ‘Let my people go.’

The United Nations Human Rights Council, set to discuss the matter in New York as part of their agenda on Friday April 15th, are expected to uphold the Palestinian claim.
