We’ve had peace with Egypt now for 38 years now, but let’s face it – relations have been on the freezing cold side.
So seeing this really warm meeting between Israeli Binyamin Netanyahu and Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi in New York – their first in public – brings joy to the heart. Warm and fuzzies also ensue.
Note what al-Sisi’s translator says: “It is a great pleasure to have this meeting with you.”
They even look like they like each other.
This comes the same week we read about Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa al Khalifa denouncing the Arab boycott of Israel.
The times are-a-changin.’
It was bound to happen that enough Arab leaders have grown weary of the PA tail wagging the Arab dog with nothing worthwhile to show for it.
Aussi Dave, you mean 38 years. Peace treaty was signed in 1979.
Indeed. My math was off
ABSOLUTELY GREAT !!!! But one thing seems strange to me : behind Abdel Fata’h Al Sissi, there is the Egyptian flag, but there is no Israeli flag behind Binyamin Netanyahou… Why ?

Strange though it may be to say, by the standards of Arab dictators, Al-Sisi is a real gem. He seems to really care about seeing his country flourish. He openly called for what amounts to Islamic reform to reject violent extremist, which if you ask me was a very risky and brave thing to do. And he fights the Muslim Brotherhood terrorists vigorously.
His fondness for Netanyahu is probably because Al-Sisi is happy to interact with and work with good people who want to build up rather than tear down. He wants to see a happy and prosperous Egypt. I’ll admit I’ve not heard anything either way, but I surmise he’s not pumping anti-Semitic tropes to placate the masses the way his predecessors did.
