Guess Who’s Blamed For Suicide Bombing In Syria

Yesterday, 2 suicide bombers detonated cars packed with explosives in near-simultaneous attacks in Damascus, killing at least 27 people. While the Syrian government blamed the explosions on ‘terrorists’ it claims are behind the uprising, the opposition denied any involvement, accusing the government of staging the attacks to soil their image. Top US intelligence officials believe al-Qaeda in Iraq may be behind the bombings.

But some Muslim and Christian clerics have blamed the terror attacks on a convenient scapegoat (original link in Hebrew; auto-translation follows).

West fails to stop the violence in Syria, and last night the security forces continued to skirmish with the rebels. Yesterday images of death arrived in the capital Damascus, when – 27 people were killed in the explosion of two car bombs in the city – including innocent civilians and government officials. Appeared on television Muslim clerics and Christians who advocated: “Israel sent agents to commit the crimes”

Two strong explosions woke yesterday (Saturday) the inhabitants of Damascus, not the first time. Government rushed in to tell that car bombs were used by Syrian intelligence headquarters of the police stations. Nearly 30 people, said Assad’s men were killed, and some civilians.

Government TV station joined forces to strengthen the regime and the studio convened senior clerics, Muslim and Christian. They both had strong opinions about the guilty. “Israel committed these crimes through its agents,” he accused Sheikh Abdul – Qadir al – Shihabi Damascus. According to him, no explanation, except that “they are the devil’s handiwork and the product of his sinful thoughts.”

Anglican Bishop of milk, Ibrahim Nasir, does not disagree with his friend. “This criminal action Israeli entity provides a real opportunity to expand its control over the area,” he says.

Well, Israel and soccer team FC Barcelona.

I wonder if these people considered what would happen if they got their way and Israel was – G-d forbid – wiped from the map. Who on earth would they blame for their ills? (hat tip: Tom)
