Hollywood actor Jon Voight has already done enough to prove just how much he loves Israel.
But a few weeks ago, he did a bit more.
Things got a little heated when Jon Voight showed up April 3 at UCLA to speak at a Bruins for Israel event. After he vocally aligned himself with Newt Gingrich’s hard-line views on the nation, a Jewish student approached him to politely offer his dissent in favor of a two-state solution.
Voight became animated, eventually grabbing the student’s collar and lightly shaking him. When THR reached the actor, he insisted it was merely a playful moment.
“Between the boy and I, I was making a joke,” says Voight. “It wasn’t serious.”
Yet the Bruin, who wishes to maintain his privacy, is unappeased. “I still don’t think he should have put his hands on me.”
I wish I knew more Jews with Voight’s passion for Israel.
In the meantime, the student can thank his lucky stars Jon only lightly shook him.
