This is disappointing: actor Danny DeVito is anti-Israel and – dare I say that – seems borderline antisemitic (hat tip: JewDah Macabbee).
“I thought last night, in New York City, where the Israeli lobby is big and everybody is talking about Israel, Bernie really stood up for the Palestinians,” says DeVito. “Just say that you think there was excessive force the last time the Israelis attacked Gaza! No. She couldn’t say it. It’s gettin’ sticky because you don’t want the same thing to happen there that happened in South Africa. You don’t want that.”
I am disappointed but I should have seen the writing on the wall. This is what the little man said about Israel hater Jeremy Corbyn a little over a week ago.
But it does not always seem to have been this way. In 2006, he was one of the celebrities to blast Hamas and Hizbullah for terrorism against Israel. And 2 years later, he was at the 23rd Israel Film Festival, accepting the Lifetime Visionary Award. At the time, he was a member of OneVoice, which at least portrays itself as even-handed.
Which is a shame. He’d make a hell of a Ben Gurion these days.
Maybe Michael Douglas can talk some sense into him.
