Earlier this week a headline in Al Jazeera, a purported news site that is funded by the Qatari ruling family, described a new Israeli law as “violat[ing] all rules of democracy.”
I strongly suspect that the 1.4 million people living in “modern day slavery” in Qatar’s labor camps would disagree with that assessment.
The law in question allows an MK who incites racial hatred or supports armed struggle against the state to be removed from the Knesset if there is a three-quarters supermajority vote, including ten votes from the opposition party, in favor of doing so. An MK subject to this process would have recourse to the Israeli Supreme Court.
