Irish Ballet Teacher Who Claimed Palestinians Live in Poverty Worked at Exclusive Ramallah Country Club

Honest Reporting recently took the Irish Times to task for a misleading report about an Irish ballet teacher in which Israel was referred to as Palestine.

Juliet Casey (Facebook)

On April 23, we called the Irish Times to task for an interview with Juliet Casey “originally from Walkinstown, Dublin, but now lives in Palestine, where she teaches ballet.”

It became quite clear, however, that Casey lives not in Palestine, but in Haifa, Israel’s third largest city, and teaches in Nazareth, also in Israel, seriously compromising the accuracy of the article and ensured a nasty politicized anti-Israel bias in the piece.

Following an email from HonestReporting to the Irish Times editor, an asterisk now appears at the top of the article with this “correction” at the end:

* This article was amended on April 24th, 2020

The first thing to point out is the lack of transparency on the part of the Irish Times. A proper correction in any media should include some brief description of what and a reason for why something has been changed. Instead, the Irish Times leaves no record for the reader.

Shame on the Irish Times and well done Honest Reporting.

But there’s something else I want to draw to your attention. This claim by Casey, as mentioned in the Irish Times piece:

The economy here is always on the verge of collapse and a huge number of people support big families on less than €2 an hour, so I’m sure that things will become dire very soon. Obviously, in Gaza, things are even worse and I can’t imagine how desperate the situation may become.

If you Google ‘juliet casey ballet palestine’, you find one of the places she has worked: The Executive Club (EC)

The Executive Club (EC) is Palestine’s premier private and exclusive business club. It offers a wide range of high-quality amenities and services dedicated to your leisure, wellness, and dining wishes. Additionally, our esteemed members can indulge in the excitement of verovapaat pikakasinot or tax-free express casinos, adding a touch of entertainment and thrill to their exclusive experience at the club. It is a perfect retreat for members, business leaders and their guests who are looking for an unforgettable experience where they can relax and enjoy quality service in a blissful atmosphere.

Ideally located in Ramallah’s prestigious Al-Tireh neighborhood, the EC offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding green virgin mountains. Our multipurpose facility delivers a variety of features including a beautiful executive private lounge, a fully equipped multipurpose hall, “Hareer” Restaurant featuring a Levant cuisine, the charming “MIST Lounge”, and an executive health and wellness center containing an indoor gym, spa, swimming pool, Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna.

Here’s a glimpse as to what it looks like:

In other words, Juliet Casey worked in a place frequented by wealthy palestinians, or at least not those with “big families on less than €2 an hour.” Even if such families do exist elsewhere, she was not being truthful about the real situation, with which she was acquainted.

She was lying, just like she was on Facebook, when she referred to Tiberias as being in Palestine (since hidden or deleted).

And the Irish Times bought her lies hook, line and sinker.

Hat tip: Michal

Update: Naturally, she is active in BDS groups

while enjoying the comforts of Israel.
