Yesterday, the new Human Rights Watch report “A Threshold Crossed,” written by Omar Shakir, dropped.
Much has already been written about it, by people a lot smarter than me, so I will not reinvent the wheel. Needless to say, it is a report based on mendacious lies, and distortions of international law, including a redefinition of the word “apartheid.”
I want to focus on something else. The report includes a number of graphics to illustrate how Jewish Israelis and Arabs are treated in Israel:
You will notice that the Israelis are all depicted as white Europeans, while the Arabs are depicted as “brown” indigenous people. This ignores the reality of how so many Israelis are also Middle Eastern in appearance (not to mention Ethiopian and other “non-white” ethnicities).
Depicting Jews as “White colonizers”, while clearly a tactic to strengthen the apartheid narrative, is not just false; it is also an antisemitic trope.
Which just goes to show what is the ultimate driver behind the report and its findings.
