Canada’s National Post has run a story about Canadians calling on the federal Canadian government to urgently help their loved ones evacuate Gaza.
What stuck out for me was this statement by one of those interviewed.
He and other Canadian residents with families in Gaza fear more bloodshed and are calling on the federal government to urgently help their loved ones evacuate.
“As a government, they should be taking care of their people,” said Khalaf. “Right? I mean, that’s the government’s job.”
This coming from a guy who seems to be turning a blind eye to what Hamas is doing to its own people:
Khalaf said his five-year-old son who was born in Canada couldn’t understand the situation and the reasons behind the bombing in Gaza.
“The questions come up: ‘What’s happening? Why is this happening? Is this happening in Canada? Is this happening everywhere, or is it just here?”‘ he said.
And the answer is “It is happening just here. Because the Hamas government in Gaza does not care about its own people, who it is using as human shields, while trying to murder Israeli civilians.”
Of course, I don’t think Khalaf, who complains about the Canadian government not looking after its own people, responded to his son this way. Which is why I wouldn’t be surprised if his son returns to Gaza permanently one day – to join “the cause.”
