In case it wasn’t already clear, Congresswoman Ilhan Omar is an antisemite.
And it’s not just about the Benjamins baby, her using the antisemitic trope that we have power over the world, suggesting Jews are Islamophobic, invoking the dual loyalty canard, or endorsing the idea that Jesus was “palestinian” (thus erasing Jewish history).
It is now also comparing us to the Nazis:
“Pogrom” is a Russian word meaning “to wreak havoc, to demolish violently.” Historically, the term refers to violent attacks by local non-Jewish populations on Jews in the Russian Empire and in other countries. Pogroms occurred in Nazi Germany, with Kristallnacht being one of the most infamous examples.
So while those Jews incensed over the murders of their fellow Jews did reportedly rampage through a palestinian Arab town, the use of the word “pogrom” is highly offensive and I would argue antisemitic in that it compares us to the Nazis.
Incidentally, she had absolutely nothing to say about the murders of four innocent Jews which triggered the rampage. Singling out Israel in this way while giving a free pass to terrorists murdering Jews also smells a lot like antisemitism to me.
