For the last few years, if you have lived in the United States, wherever you went, it was in your face: Black Lives Matter; transgender rights; if you are White, you are inherently racist; stop racism; and the like.
For naive eyes, it might have seemed that society was shifting towards a more compassionate whole—or should we say more wholesome?!
Fast forward to October 7th.
An unfathomable attack is executed against Israel and her citizens.
What we saw on that day and have been seeing ever since is a society that is conveniently moving the goalposts when it comes to stopping racism against Jews.
If you had read how Linda Sarsour talked about the first big Women’s March, you would know what we see today was years in the making. Sarsour was all about inclusion in the Women’s March; she mentioned all types of women except Jewish women.
If you had followed the happenings on college campuses for the last decade, you would know what we see today was years in the making. College campuses normalized anti-Zionism (which is unquestionably intertwined with being anti-Jew). Under the pretense of free speech, they allowed professors to re-invent history and brainwash a generation with the Black-White-looking colonizer-colonized, oppressor-oppressed narrative.
If you had followed anything about the United Nations vis-a-vis Israel, you would know what we see today was years in the making. The special agenda item 7 on Israel, the double or often triple amounts of condemnation against Israel than the rest of the world combined, the full and factually-proven Islamization of the institutions… all of these led to today.
If you had followed anything about UNRWA, you would know that what we see today was years in the making. In 2021, even the head of the UNRWA, Philippe Lazzarini, acknowledged that Palestinian textbooks contain – and I quote – “problematic material.” But then life continued, the goalposts were moved again, and another generation of Gazan kids has been growing up with an instilled hatred towards Jews (and, I’d add, Western civilization).
On October 26th, I shared a video in which I tried to dumb down the “From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be free” chant for the PC-driven general American audience. In it I said: “From the West Coast to the East Coast, America will be free from Blacks.”
I know. Triggering.
To say something like this in 2024-America is a sin. I do not disagree, of course.
But tell me then, how does the same PC-driven general American audience not feel the verifiable Jew-hatred, the palpable racism against Jews in the original chant?
How far can we push the goalposts? Or rather, how dare we move the goalposts when it comes to Jews?
I tell you how. It was years in the making. The tolerance level towards the “movable goalposts” when it comes to Jews and/or Israel is the result of all that many overlooked, or ignored, or did not take seriously for years.
This includes Jewish communities and organizations as well. This is not finger-pointing but encouragement to take accountability.
What we see today was years in the making. We let the goalposts move beyond a flashing red line, and now we are facing the consequences.
But crying over the past has never helped anyone, and change will only happen if and when we act on our outrage. Change will only come when we either drill those goalposts down or break them into pieces and build new ones.
