Political Expediency in Negotiating With Hamas

We still have ‘negotiations’ with Hamas? After weeks of back and forward between Doha and Cairo, the Israeli delegation is still engaged in discussions with an entity that refuses to actually sit at the table.

What a farce.

This has been the pattern for years and I’ve written about it a number of times. The Hamas charter is based upon the idea that the state of Israel does not exist in Hamas’ eyes and therefore they will not, and have not, negotiated.

Hamas may have changed their charter, for public image purposes, but they are still hellbent on creating a Jew free ‘palestinian state,’ from the River to the Sea.

Just for clarification purposes, there was never a nation called ‘palestine,’ and when one talked about ‘palestinians’ before WWII he was referring to Jews.

The notion of the ‘palestinian people,’ as it exists today, was created in the early 1960’s as a political hammer with which to strike Israel and the Jews. How well it’s working.

Sinwaar is patently still disinterested in negotiating and is playing a waiting game, he knows that the longer he delays things, the greater the (American) pressure upon Israel grows.

These so called ‘hostage negotiations,’ are really thinly disguised ceasefire talks

This is an American election year, and the Americans want to create an illusion that they have created a ‘lasting peace’ in the Middle East. In order to achieve this aim, they are pressuring Israel (the only party over which they actually hold any sway) to agree to terms that would virtually guarantee tragedies like October 7th happening again.

The Americans know very well, that this is a complete lie, that Israel cannot survive under the present circumstances. That even if they manage to arrange some kind of ‘deal’ that brings a kind of stability to the region, it will not last.

If the Americans think otherwise, then either their intelligence is bad, or they are deluded, as deluded as sections of the Israeli public, who have politicized the ‘return of the hostages’ and sat it on a plinth for all to see, claiming that returning the hostages now, and at any cost, is the number one priority of the army.

They put the hostages, many of whom are known to be deceased, above the lives of the more than 700 soldiers that have died in Israel’s war to stop the Hamas threat, once and for all.

This is a completely twisted narrative, devoid of any logic or critical thinking, if ‘any price’ is okay, then there will likely be future abductions.

There seems to be a conception, that a ‘hostage deal’ will miraculously change the fact that Israel is facing an existential threat. Ignoring it, or putting it off will be suicide for Israel.

Making a deal that allows Hamas to rehabilitate itself is suicide for Israel.

Putting the welfare of the hostages above that of the Israeli populace in general is a complete perversion of logic, and no deal should be made that endangers, or will endanger Israel, in any way shape or form.

If insisting on the security of Israel will result in the hostages not being returned, then sadly, so be it. The Israeli government has a responsibility to all it’s citizens to ensure their security both now and in the future. This responsibility is much greater than the responsibility to return the hostages.

This is a fact, and it should be self evident, were it not for the social media and calls for the ridiculous idea of ‘social justice,’ which seems to have invaded many sections of the Israeli public.

Every year, we sing at Passover ‘in every generation, they stand up to eradicate us,’ why haven’t we learned yet?

I believe that Israel needs to act in the interests of all her citizens, pull out of this farcical negotiation with a non-existent party and do what is needed to restore the security and sovereignty of Israel and her citizens.

Only, once we take the first step, will we merit the rest of the verse ‘and Hashem, blessed be He saves us from their hand.’

In much the same way as Nachshon took the initiative causing the waters to part, so too does the government need to take the initiative on behalf of her citizens, and do what is necessary and best for them, and not for American politics.
