Last night in Amsterdam, just hours after the country commemorated the 86th anniversary of Kristallnacht, some clearly “Anti-Zionist-not-antisemitic” Muslim immigrants decided to go for a reenactment, when they violently attacked Maccabi Tel Aviv fans following a soccer match between Maccabi and Ajax. Maccabi fans were thrown into rivers and run over by cars, their passports were stolen and published online, fathers walking with their children were attacked by mobs, and women were beaten in the streets, with many beaten unconscious. Many of the attackers were armed with clubs and knives. The perpetrators also broke into hotels, fired incendiary devices through windows, and burned Israeli flags.
Local authorities have reported that ten Israelis have been injured so far in the pogrom, with consul members currently searching hospitals. Two people have been reported missing.
Israeli President Isaac Herzog summarized the feelings of so many of us when he tweeted:
We see with horror this morning, the shocking images and videos that since October 7th, we had hoped never to see again: an antisemitic pogrom currently taking place against Maccabi Tel Aviv fans and Israeli citizens in the heart of Amsterdam, Netherlands.
as did Dutch politician Geert Wilders when he wrote:
Looks like a Jew hunt in the streets of Amsterdam. Arrest and deport the multicultural scum that attacked Maccabi Tel Aviv supporters in our streets. Ashamed that this can happen in The Netherlands. Totally unacceptable.
For their part, the anti-Israel crowd is blaming the pogrom on the Jews, spreading footage that supposedly shows Maccabi fans antagonizing the Israel-haters.
To this I respond as follows: even if some Maccabi fans said some things to the Israel-haters, they did not resort to violence AND this does not justify the deplorable violence we saw from the haters. Plus the nature of the attacks indicates premeditation, so there is little doubt in my mind this was an ambush and not a reaction.
Let’s be honest: these haters worldwide have been calling for a “global intifada” for a while and this is what we are seeing, not just in Amsterdam but worldwide. And more often than not, it are Muslim immigrants to the host countries who are behind the violence, aid and abetted by an assortment of local useful idiots.
Speaking of which, Free Palestine Printing, located across the world in Australia, has posted this antisemitic gloating in response to the Amsterdam pogrom:
Meanwhile, an irony in all of this is that Maccabi’s opponent, Ajax, is a historically very pro-Jewish club, which was actually sued for racism in 2016 because their fans sing pro-Jewish chants. In fact, just a few days ago, the Maccabi website published a piece on the link between Maccabi and Ajax fans.
