Anti-Israel Sign in Prahran Breached Victorian Road Laws

A few days ago, I posted how the anti-Israel Jewish Council of Australia bragged how some of their group members hung a sign in Prahran on an overpass, which seemed to pose a danger to traffic and which I surmised might be breaking the law if the proper approvals were not obtained.

JCA post

I reached out to the City of Stonnington council, which covers Prahran, and they directed me to the Victorian Department of Transport and Planning, who confirmed the following:

“Placing signage on roadside infrastructure without approval can pose a danger to passing drivers.”

Under the Road Management Act 2004, Department of Transport and Planning contractors have the power to remove unlawful objects from the road reserve, Schedule 3, Section 4.

It is an offence under section 66(1) of the Road Management Act 2004, to place advertising and signage on a road or road infrastructure without prior written consent.

Necessary permits were not issued by the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) in this instance.

DTP is not an enforcement agency – issuing fines is a matter for Victoria Police.

Please join me in contacting Victoria Police here to inform them about this latest contravention of the law by the Israel-haters.

I sincerely hope the police will fine the perpetrators, especially given that at the moment, there is a real justified feeling they are not protecting the community, especially after reports like this:

Victoria’s new chief commissioner has ordered a review into police handling of a violent attack on an Israeli restaurant in Melbourne after it emerged officers were earlier given orders not to interact with a rowdy demonstration in the CBD.

Premier Jacinta Allan said it was reasonable for people to ask why there were not more arrests after a group that splintered from the demonstration rampaged through Miznon restaurant in the CBD on Friday night.

She said it was also fair to ask why slogans such as “Death to the IDF” were tolerated at pro-Palestinian rallies.

“That is a fair question,” she said after visiting the East Melbourne Synagogue firebombed on the same night as the restaurant attack.

“The police minister and I were briefed this morning by the chief commissioner, and he is examining the operational response.”
