With the onslaught of lies about Gaza flooding the news and social media since October 7, you would be forgiven for forgetting that many lies about Gaza were also being disseminated well before the day of this atrocity.
But there were, none bigger than Gaza being an open-air prison/concentration camp.
As part of this narrative, claims were made that Gazans suffered from malnutrition, and no-one championed this claim more than Al Jazeera. For instance:
“He says cases of acute malnutrition with signs of severe wasting among young children in Gaza are increasing. But the real public health concern is chronic malnutrition, characterised by stunting and rickets, says Wahaidi, who has seen rates increase by about 50 percent over the past decade among children aged five years and younger, rising from nine percent to 13.4 percent of the population.”
“Malnutrition, lack of drinking water, daily electricity outages, massive unemployment, and extreme poverty are not abstract slogans for the civilians who have participated in these demonstrations.”
“But in recent months Dr Abu Samia has seen sharp rises in gastroenteritis, kidney disease, paediatric cancer, marasmus – a disease of severe malnutrition appearing in infants.”
“The people of Gaza already face dire conditions: unemployment is at 44 percent (61 percent for the youth); 80 percent of the population is dependent on some form of foreign assistance; 97 percent of water is undrinkable; and 10 percent of children have stunted growth due to malnutrition.”
“More than 60 percent of Gaza residents needed food aid even before the latest Israeli bombing campaign started on October 7 in the wake of deadly Hamas attacks inside Israel.”
I am mentioning this in light of an Al Jazeera piece from May 2026, which I just discovered today. While it (obviously) is meant to demonize Israel, it (inadvertently) contradicts everything Al Jizz was claiming until now.
Israel has manufactured a malnutrition crisis in the besieged Gaza Strip by restricting deliveries of food and aid, causing severe harm to pregnant women and newborns, according to medical charity Doctors Without Borders, known by its French initials MSF.
MSF said in an analysis of medical data published on Thursday that Israel’s severe restrictions on supplies of essential goods and its attacks on civilian infrastructure had led to rising levels of malnutrition among pregnant women, increasing the likelihood of premature births.
The charity also found higher mortality rates among babies born to mothers affected by malnutrition.
The MSF analysis is based on incidents that occurred at four health facilities in Gaza that were either administered or supported by MSF between late 2024 and early 2026.
The charity said malnutrition was almost non-existent before Israel launched its genocidal war against Palestinians in Gaza in October 2023, which has killed more than 72,500 people, and that the extremely poor conditions in the enclave were a direct result of Israel’s actions.
“The malnutrition crisis is entirely manufactured. Before the war, malnutrition in Gaza was almost non-existent. For 2.5 years, the systematic blockade to humanitarian aid and commercial goods on top of insecurity have severely restricted access to food and clean water,” said Merce Rocaspana, MSF’s medical referent for emergencies.
So there you have it. Buried in yet another anti‑Israel screed, Al Jazeera lets slip the line that quietly torpedoes a decade or so of its own reporting.
As the old saying goes, a liar needs a good memory.
Al Jizz don’t seem to have one, but the internet does.
