Mandatory Reading

Thursday, November 30th, 2006
Lee Kaplan has another must-read article on the ISM.
A Swedish Meatball in Israel

The demand came into Israel’s Foreign Ministry from the Swedish ambassador in Tel Aviv demanding an explanation. A Swedish ISM activist, a woman named Tove Johansson, was struck in the face by those nasty settlers in Hebron. Johansson, 19, was in Hebron demonstrating with the ISM through one of its “Christian peacemaker” groups. She chose to be there during an international Shabaton bringing Jews from all over the world to celebrate Judaism in King David’s former capital.

Johansson was armed with a video camera. The ISM likes to film Jewish settlers off guard, like when the settlers chase Arabs off of legally Jewish-owned land. The ISM then runs videos on its website saying the land belongs to some Arab who isn’t being allowed to harvest his olives. You see, all of Eretz Israel belongs to Arabs anyway, even Tel Aviv, to the “Palestinian-led” ISM creeps.

Johansson was with fellow ISM activists, international anarchists and communists from abroad attempting to interfere at a checkpoint set up to keep out suicide bombers and terrorists. Johansson would no doubt tell you Hebron belongs to the Arabs.

A paragon of journalistic integrity and research, the ISM website, in an article by the unquestionable journalist named “aspiring nomad,” described how Johansson was escorting Arab children to school because the settlers assault Arab children and threaten them as they go to and from school. The ISM is notorious for the Big Lie; they take whatever is opposite the truth and disseminate it to the public abroad portraying Palestinians as “victims.” Jewish settlers throw rocks at innocent Arabs, not the other way around, Jews farm and steal from land owned by some imaginary Arab who insists the produce or animals on that land are really his. Accusations of assaults on school children by Jews who are under threat of terrorist attacks by Arabs are de rigueur for ISM propagandists.

Sadly, sometimes the mainstream press buys into this stuff.

Johansson claimed, per the ISM website, that as she was escorting children to protect them from those payes-adorned violent Jews who attack innocent children (another blood libel), a group of them followed her and began shouting at her, “We killed Christ and we can kill you, too!” One of them finally caught up to her and smashed her in the face with a bottle, fracturing her cheekbone.

One of the ISM “witnesses” then said that, as Tove was taken on a stretcher to the ambulance, one Orthodox Jewish settler posed for a photo next to her bloody face making the thumbs up sign. This “witness” says he didn’t photograph this because he didn’t want to give the man the pleasure. More likely, our ISM witness didn’t photograph it because it never happened, as it’s hard to believe that anyone in the ISM would miss such a photo-op.

The article also complains Israeli soldiers nearby were asked to intervene on behalf of Tove before and after she was assaulted, but they ignored her requests for help, but called the police eventually. The article however does acknowledge she was taken to Hadassah hospital, where she received free medical care courtesy of the Israeli taxpayer whose country she wants dismantled to become “Palestine.”

In the US, right now, the ISM is doing a major push in Christian churches to divest from Israel. Using the same tactic of accusing Israel of precisely what the Arabs are doing, ISM activists and their Arab buddies give lectures where they claim the flight of Christians from Judea and Samaria is not due to Muslim persecution, but due to Jewish persecution. They couch this through the euphemism of “the occupation” (remember, “occupation” in ISM lingo means all of Israel). They also want Christians to believe it is a “moral imperative” to boycott the Jews.

No doubt when Tove’s face heals, she’ll be given a nice sinecure to tour US and Swedish churches and tell everyone how those violent followers of Torah who say “Shalom” attacked her and beat her as she was protecting children from them. This is the new blood libel in Gentile churches abroad. With it, anarchists and communists help Muslim Arabs wipe capitalist Israel off the map to create their utopian society. And since the ISM operates under the mantra of Maclolm X’s “by any means necessary” to achieve their goals, so what if they fabricate a tale of Jews taking credit for killing Christ in this story? After all, it will play better in American churches as they urge them not to support Israel’s Jews.

As for the accusations of the Israeli soldiers not intervening, I went undercover and sat through an ISM training session in San Francisco where we were taught how to harass IDF soldiers (like the ISM was doing that day at the checkpoint) to interfere with their anti-terrorist mission. One thing made clear to us was that the soldiers were not police and if a civilian crime was being committed they were under orders to call the police. That is what the soldiers did in Tove Johansson’s case. It’s the height of hypocrisy for the ISM to imply the IDF didn’t do its job when she asked them to intervene when, in fact, the ISM teaches its people that the IDF non-intervention will help them get away with civil disobedience in the territories in the presence of the soldiers, and with interfering with the soldiers and challenging their authority even in closed military zones.

A Hebron community leader said a real witness at the scene heard one of Johansson’s attackers say he had to “catch a flight to France tomorrow.” Allegedly, the Border Police arrested some suspects, but let them go. The Border Police frequently arrests international ISM activists who break the law, but lets them go right away so as to avoid international incidents like this one with the Swedish ambassador. We were taught in the ISM training session to use that fact to our advantage to gain easy release during anti-wall demonstrations such as in Bi’lin. So, again, it’s rather hypocritical to complain that the Border Police released some international suspects the same as they do ISM rioters. We already know how the Border Police lets ISM internationals run amok, so why not some from the other side? At least one left for France the next day….

But here’s the corker I sent the Swedish ambassador. In my last feature article about the ISM, one of my volunteers went into the West Bank with ISM activist leaders for a day trip to Jericho prison. While there, he photographed his ISM buddies waving around AK-47 assault rifles in the presence of an Al-Aksa Martyrs Brigade terrorist. One of those ISM leaders is a Swedish national named Gabrielle, “Gabi” for short. What’s more, she was disguised as a Jewish settler woman when the photos were taken. Gabrielle is now living in Cork, Ireland with her ISM activist Irish husband, Dave, also photographed with a gun in the same photos.
Gabi, Swedish ISMer (see here - ed.)

Just as the ambassador demanded an explanation about Tove Johansson, I demanded one of the Swedish ambassador. What was this Swedish meatball doing in Israel cavorting with terrorists and waving machine guns around? Maybe the Swedes should keep people like Gabi and Tove Johansson back home.

Official Blog of Israel

Thursday, November 30th, 2006
The State of Israel now has a blog: Isrealli

isrealli Official Blog of Israel

The Israeli Consul for media and public affairs in New York calls this “the official blog of the State of Israel”, and “the first state Blog out there.” They also want feedback.

Here are my initial thoughts:

1. It’s better late than never, but why did it take so long?

2. Do we really need another blog that plays on the words “Israel” and “real”? It is so unoriginal and cliched. Ok, I’ll shut up now…

3. The blog looks nice.

4. They need to extend the blogroll to include a great many more pro-Israel blogs.

5. The blogroll should be located on the main page.

6. Good to see the government is rebranding Israel as promised, evidenced by the Hot in Israel banner in the right-hand sidebar.

The Case of the Anti-Israel Dictionary

Thursday, November 30th, 2006

Israellycool

reader Andrew has forwarded a mail from a friend of his, who points out

that when you look up the word “annex” in the UK version of

www.ask.com, this

is what you get:

annex

noun

1.

an addition that extends a main building

verb

1.

take illegally, as of territory: “The Israelis are annexing more and more territory on the West

Bank “

2.   take

(territory) by conquest: “Hitler annexed Lithuania

3.   attach

to

His friend

continues:

Even more offensive than the

suggestion that Israel has illegally taken territory on the West Bank

and that it is continuing to take more and more is the juxtaposition of

verb 1 next to verb 2.  The implicit comparison of Israel with

Nazi Germany is about as repugnant and offensive as it gets.

In fact, if you read it closely, Israel appears in a somewhat worse

light than Nazi Germany i.e. Israel stole territory, Hitler won

it!

Apparently, the “dictionary” employed by Ask.com

(at least in the UK ) is WordNet 2.1 Copyright 2005 by Princeton

University .

Different versions of the same software

seem to give slightly different definitions.

Has

anyone come across this ‚Äúdictionary‚Äù before?

Indeed, has anyone ever seen such perverse use of dictionary

“illustrations”?

No and no.

Andrew’s friend suggests writing to both Ask and

Wordnet/Princeton Uni to complain. I’ll be doing that, and I encourage

you to do the same.

Israeli News Briefs

Wednesday, November 29th, 2006
  • American Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice reportedly plans to tell PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas that he needs to impose law and order in the PA controlled territories. Abbas is expected to agree to this, but draw the line at CSI.
  • Tut-tut: After talk that anti-Israel bigot Jimmy Carter might head a UN “fact-finding” mission to Beit Hanoun, it now emerges that anti-Israel bigot Desmond Tutu will fill this role. At least the UN’s consistent.
  • An Israeli who entered Ramallah by mistake has been arrested. Which sure beats the alternative.
  • Another palestinian woman has taken a stab at terrorism.

    What If?

    Tuesday, November 28th, 2006
This is extremely funny. Until you realize how sad it is (hat tip: Israelity).
If Arik (Sharon) woke up today….

It is a rainy night and we are at Tel Hashomer Hospital. Only one assistant is around, named Shmiel. He is on night duty tonight in the room of “sleeping” former Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.

Everybody, but Sharon himself, knows he is no longer the Prime Minister of Israel. Shmiel is sitting peeling an apple and G the Israeli Secret Service (Shabak) agent is nodding off.

Suddenly, all the machines start to beep. The PM is waking up!

Sharon says, “I haven’t slept like that for a long time! Get me my strategist, Reuven Adler, I have some ideas for a new direction.”

Shmiel says, “Good morning, sir. How do you feel?”

Sharon answers, “I am dying of hunger. Where am I?”

The Shabak agent continues to sleep while Shmiel explains to Sharon what had happened to him.

Sharon does not take him seriously and says, “So tonight you fooled with the PM, eh Shmiel?”

Shmiel says, “Sorry sir but you are really no longer the PM.”

After a few minutes Sharon asks, “So who replaced me?”

    Shmiel answers, “Ehud Olmert.”

Sharon reacts, “Olmert? That Jerusalemite putz? What will happen if war breaks out, he does not know how to run the army! At least Shaul [Mofaz] is still there!”

Shmiel answers, “Mofaz is the Minister of Transportation.”

“So who is the Defence Minister?”

    Shmiel says, “Peretz.”

“That old man is still alive?!” asks Sharon in wonderment.

Shmiel whispers trembling, “not Peres, Peretz. Amir Peretz.”

“What? Are you crazy? I close my eyes for a minute and you guys let a Labor leader take over the defence of the country?! Not all the factories in Dimona are the same. Does he know that? Listen, get Omri here right away. He will fix everything.”

“Sorry sir, Omri is on his way to jail.”

“Jail?? for that nonsense? I do not believe it. So get me my lawyer quickly. Get Klagsbald.”

Shmiel responds, Klagsbald is on his way to jail.”

Sharon calms down and says, “I knew I could count on Klagsbald. he will get Omri out of it.”

Shmiel corrects him and says, “No, sir. Klagsbald is also on his way to jail. He was driving and not paying attention and caused an accident unintentionally running over and killing a young woman and her son.”

Sharon said, “So bring me [Avigdor] Yitzchaki. He always knows how to fix these situations.”

“Sorry, sir. Yitzchaki is under his own investigation for tax fraud. He fixed things too much this time.”

“Can’t be. I know Yitzchaki. They must be framing him. So get me the Head of Police.”

“Sorry, sir, but Karadi is under investigation for corruption.”

“Of course he is. He is the head of police. I am sure he is in the middle of a number of investigations!”

“No, sir. This is an investigation against him!”

Sharon takes a deep breath. It can’t be. The whole justice system has been ruined! We must get them out of this. Get me the minister of Internal Security, Tzachi [Hanegbi].”

“Sir, Hanegbi has been indicted for fraud, bribery and job fixing. He is not a minister anymore.”

“So get me the Justice Minister. Who did Olmert appoint?”

    “Haim Ramon”

    “So get him here!”

“Sorry sir. I can’t. He has been indicted and is on trial for sexual misconduct.”

“What? So get me the president. That is still Katzav, right?”

“Sorry sir, but Katzav is under investigation as well, for sexual misconduct AND wiretapping.”

“So get me the Chief of Staff, Boogie [Moshe Ayalon]. Sorry I mean Halutz, right?”

“Sir, he got into some trouble in the Lebanon War. Nothing criminal. he sold some stocks. He will soon be giving testimony to an investigative committee.”

“Halutz?? he was a young Piper pilot during the Lebanon War!”

“Sir, that would be the second Lebanon War, it happened while you were sleeping. We… how should I say? lost the war but the Prime Minister said we should be patient, victory is coming.”

Sharon looked around his room. “What is your name and what is your position?”

“Shmiel, sir. I am a hospital attendant.”

“Ok, Shmiel. Do not tell anyone about this conversation.”

“You can count on me, sir.”

    “I’m going back to sleep.”

    Apology Not Accepted

    Tuesday, November 28th, 2006
After having actor Michael Richards on his radio show to issue an apology for his racist rant, African-American leader Jesse Jackson has decided that a punishment is in order - a boycott against the Jooooooos.
Jerry, Elaine and George could end up paying for Michael Richards’ rant.

The Reverend Jesse Jackson called for a boycott Monday of the latest Seinfeld DVD, a way of exacting economic punishment for Richards’ racist meltdown.

In a bit of bad timing for Jerry Seinfeld, et al., the seventh season of Seinfeld was released as a four-disc set last week, just as Richards’ caught-on-video, Nov. 17 Los Angeles comedy club raving was made public.

The new Seinfeld package, featuring much quoted episodes such as “The Soup Nazi” (”No soup for you!”), was Amazon.com’s 11th-biggest-selling DVD on Monday and was expected to be a big stocking-stuffer for Christmas.
True, Richard’s apology didn’t go too well. For a start, he invoked the “some of my best friends are..” defence. Never a good idea.
In the last week, Richards has become better known for hurling the N-word at black hecklers after attempting a lynching joke during the same riff and, later, for apologizing—or trying to, anyway.

My best friends were African-Americans,” Richards said Sunday on Jackson’s Premiere Radio Network show.
Followed by the Mel Gibson “I don’t know where the anger is coming from” spiel.
Richards has appeared infrequently on camera since Seinfeld ended. Per his new PR guru, the actor is now appearing regularly in a psychiatrist’s office for counseling.

“I have been trying to get to the source of where that anger comes from,” Richards said on Jackson’s radio show.
Nevetheless, it’s more of an apology (and more timely) than that offered by Jackson after his own racist rant against the “Hymies.”

Update: By the way, there have been conflicting reports regarding Michael Richards’s ethnicity, with some claiming he is Jewish, and others not. Let’s settle this once and for all.
Michael Richards was not born Jewish but “adheres” to Jewish philosophy, according to his publicist.

Richards’ racist remarks at a Los Angeles comedy club last week created a maelstrom as well as a media frenzy.

Amid all the hoopla, bloggers and others labeled the former “Seinfeld” star Jewish but others reported he was not.

Howard Rubenstein, who was hired as Richards’ publicist, told JTA that Richards has not formally converted to Judaism but that some of his mentors were Jewish and he “adheres to Jewish philosophy.”

He said he could not give more details.
    All clear now?

    Sign of the Times

    Tuesday, November 28th, 2006
ptimes Sign of the TimesThe palestinians have launched something from their territories, and for once it isn’t a Kassam rocket.
The first privately owned English-language daily, the Palestine Times, was launched Monday in the West Bank and Gaza, with its editors aiming to provide news about the region to English speakers abroad.

The 12-page newspaper will cover Palestinian affairs, including the conflict with Israel and developments in the Arab community in Israel, said its editor-in-chief, Othman Haj Mohammed.

The newspaper is not affiliated with any Palestinian parties, Mohammed said. The op-ed page of Monday’s edition included articles by the spokesman from the Hamas government, the spokesman of the rival Fatah Party and an independent analyst.

With an initial circulation of 5,000 and a newsstand price of just over $1, the newspaper will be distributed in the West Bank and Gaza. Sales in Israel and an Internet edition are also planned.

Monday’s edition led with a story on an emerging Israeli-Palestinian cease-fire. Other front-page stories included a report on the inactivity of the Palestinian parliament and on the battle between a West Bank village and the Israeli military over construction permits.

Mohammed said his paper plans to cover life in the West Bank and Gaza from a Palestinian perspective. “Many foreign mass media have been telling the Palestinian story with their standards. Now it is time for us to tell the world our story with our standards,” he said.
Given that the mainstream media have resorted to obfuscating the truth, manipulating images, and outright lying in order to cover news from a palestinian perspective, I hate to think about the standards to which the Palestine Times will sink.

Eideh Be Worried If I Were You

    Monday, November 27th, 2006
Piers Akerman has written an opinion piece in The Daily Telegraph, dealing with a worrying political development in Melbourne - an ostensibly pro-Syrian/pro-terrorism/anti-Israel Member of Parliament.

eideh Eideh Be Worried If I Were YouVictoria’s Labor Premier Steve Bracks will take his third oath of office in coming days and as he does so, he will introduce new ALP Upper House MP Khalil Eideh, a dual Syrian-Australian citizen who has sworn his absolute loyalty to the tyrannical dictatorship of Syria.

Like Lakemba’s Sheik Taj el-Dene Elhilaly, Eideh has already claimed to have had his words taken out of context and to have had his flowery Arabic phrases misinterpreted but there is no doubt that controversial letters which surfaced during his stormy pre-selection battle are genuine and the translations in which he expressed his loyalty to the Syrian dictatorship, accurate.

Like Elhilaly, who enjoyed the sponsorship of a number of senior NSW ALP figures including former prime minister Paul Keating, the millionaire trucking company boss, has enjoyed the support of senior Victorian Labor identities, notably those from the Socialist Left, including Senator Kim Carr.

Just as Keating over-ruled all advice to ensure Elhilaly was granted Australian citizenship even though he had breached his own undertakings to leave the nation, Bracks has played ignored all protestations about Eideh’s ability to represent Victorians when he has professed his allegiance to a nation which sponsors international terrorism, and stood mute when Eideh was assured of a safe place, second on the Labor ticket after popular Sports Minister Justin Madden.

Though he came to Australia as a teenager in 1970, Eideh has maintained such strong ties to Syria that he felt obliged to inform the Syrian dictatorship of his concerns about events within the Australian Syrian community, in his role as head of the Alawi Islamic Association, and as a member of the Syrian Social Nationalist Party, a self-proclaimed anti-Semitic revolutionary Arabic group.

In his first letter to the Syrian government, Eideh introduced himself as an “Arab Syrian citizen” and complained that Syrian influence in Melbourne, Australia, was “completely absent and doesn’t play any role in the Australian political arena”.

In his second, he expressed concert about the activities of Syria’s then honorary consul Issa Zaraybi and the Association Baath Party which he said were creating conflict in the local Syrian community through intimidation.

Writing to Syrian dictator President Assad, he said: “At a time when the danger and threat from the colonial and Zionist is increasing on our Arabic world in general, particularly our Arab-Syrian country, at a time when it is required that all forces mobilise their power in our country Syria and overseas and be recruited to support our crucial causes and support the Arab Syrian stance, an oppressive mentality surfaced in Melbourne, Australia, aiming to create a tremendous crisis within the Alawi Islamic Association.”

He ended that anxious note with a ringing pledge: “Loyalty, absolute loyalty to your courageous and wise leadership and we pledge to continue to be faithful soldiers behind your victorious leadership.”
    —-
In Eideh’s last publicly reported address, to mark the second anniversary of the first president Assad’s presidency, in 2002, he expressed his view of those celebrated cultural differences noting: “Satan’s brigades are getting ready to enslave the Arab world … We could see the light of your soul in the face of the martyrs, the heroes, the greatest of free Arabs - those who carry the flag of dawn from South Lebanon and Palestine.”
Earlier this year, Eideh addressed fears he was pro-Syrian, pro-terror, and anti-Israel with the following statement to the Australian Jewish News:
Despite recent media attention about my loyalties - I want to reassure Victorians that if elected I will represent and uphold the central values of multiculturalism and ethnic tolerance.

I have spent the last 36 years of my life living in Australia and that is where my loyalties lie.

I abhor and reject terrorism and all it represents.  I would never assist a regime that supports or promotes terrorism.

If elected, I will continue to work towards a tolerant and diverse society that embraces and celebrates cultural differences.
However, Eideh was again forced to deny he was pro-Syrian, pro-terror, and anti-Israel, after the Herald Sun published documents revealing a possible link between Eideh and the anti-Semitic Syrian National Socialist Party (SNSP).
A Labor Party candidate in this month‚Äôs Victorian State Election has fiercely denied accusations he has links with an extremist anti-Israel group.

Syrian-born Khalil Eideh told the AJN this week in a statement that he has no “input, influence or control” over the local branch of the Syrian National Socialist Party (SNSP), whose members reportedly attended a function he hosted in 2002.

According to documents obtained by the Sunday Herald Sun, copies of which were forwarded to the AJN, SNSP members attended the Islamic Alawi Association function while Eideh was its president and at which he delivered a speech.

An SNSP publication is also reported to have claimed that ‚ÄúZionist fingers‚Äù are behind a campaign to discredit Eideh as well as ‚Äúthe fearless Syria … and its president [and] the resistance in Lebanon‚Äù.

A spokesperson for Eideh said the 2002 Alawi event was a public function and Eideh had no control over who purchased tickets. He also said MPs from both sides of politics attended the event.

But Jewish Community Council of Victoria president Anton Block said any connection between Eideh and the SNSP would contradict assurances the trucking magnate made in an August 2 letter, in which he declared his support for Israel “to exist and to defend its territorial boundaries” and the banning of terrorist organisations.

“When one looks at the representations that Eideh made to the Jewish community, I’m not sure where this apparent connection [with the SNSP] puts him,” Block said. “At the very least, he needs to state what his position is vis-a-vis SNSP. He needs to make that very clear.”

Australia/Israel & Jewish Affairs Council executive director Dr Colin Rubenstein agreed that Eideh must “immediately, publicly and explicitly dissociate from the SSNP and its genocidal beliefs about Jews and Israel”.

This week, Eideh reiterated his previous pledge, saying, “I have a long history of strongly and publicly condemning terrorism and outlined this when I met with representatives of the Jewish community in recent months.”

The SNSP, which meets in the northern suburb of Brunswick and reportedly supports suicide bombers, is currently under investigation by Australian security agencies.
It doesn’t look too good to me, but in the interests of fairness, I have written to Mr Eideh, requesting that he respond to these accusations.
