Smoking Rocket: NDTV Films Hamas Firing Rocket From Next To Hotel

India’s NDTV has caught Hamasholes setting up a launch site and then firing rockets from right next to their hotel.

But unlike others who may not have wanted the word to get out, the NDTV crew kept the cameras rolling, and reported it truthfully.

After their crew had left Gaza.

In the minutes before the ceasefire kicked in at Gaza this morning, Hamas fired a flurry of rockets towards Israel – 30 according to some counts.

Israel has argued that that these rockets are fired from civilian areas, and this is why its retaliatory strikes can result in civilian casualties.

But this morning, NDTV witnessed one such rocket silo being created under a tent right next to the hotel where our team was staying. Minutes later, we saw the rocket being fired, just before the 72-hour ceasefire came into effect.

It began with a mysterious tent with a blue canopy that bobbed up yesterday (August 4) at 6:30 am in an open patch of land next to our window. We saw three men making a multitude of journeys in and out of the tent, sometimes with wires.

An hour later, they emerged, dismantled the tent, changed their clothes and walked away.

The next morning – today – we woke to news of the 72-hour ceasefire but just before it was to take effect, the rocket next to our hotel was fired. There was a loud explosion and a whooshing sound. The cloud of smoke that rose was captured by our cameraperson.

This report is being aired on NDTV and published on ndtv.com after our team left the Gaza strip – Hamas has not taken very kindly to any reporting of its rockets being fired. But just as we reported the devastating consequences of Israel’s offensive on Gaza’s civilians, it is equally important to report on how Hamas places those very civilians at risk by firing rockets deep from the heart of civilian zones.

Update: Reader Sandra asks what I believe to be an excellent question. Why are the terrorists’ faces blurred?

Update: Thanks to Judge Dan, we have located the launch site.

As you can see, right near not just the hotel but the beach/harbor and houses.

From the hotel room view, you can see a tall white building on the right, and a tall building with jagged balconies in the background. The building on the right partially blocks the view of building in the back.

You can see that the right side of the image, is the source of the sun in the morning launch, making it a view towards the north.

When the reporter walks away from the launch area, across the street, a bit to the north, lies the 5-star Commodore Hotel with its yellow and glass facade.

  1. Whoops! I said it last week, Hamas is trying their hardest to get a foreign journalist killed. It would be the propaganda coup of the century for them.

    1. In the first few days of the war, when I happened to be in Israel, there was a false report that 8 journalists had been killed by an Israeli airstrike. Much hand-wringing ensued. Thank G-d it wasn’t true. But, yeah, that’s what Hamasholes are after.

  2. I guess before long one of the journalists will probably be a willing martyr, after all they have already sold their soul.

By the way the latest story here in Britain is baroness Varsey who is part of the government foreign affairs ministry has resigned from the government in objection to David Cameron’s “refusal” to condemn Israeli air raids etc. Needless to say, the media and the Israeli haters are ecstatic.

  3. I also note that the 3 men setting up the rocket were not wearing uniforms, so if Israel did hit them, the world would get “another 3 civilian casualties”
