Kay Wilson’s Story Makes Headlines At Huge Personal Cost
A few days ago Palestine Media Watch published a video with a mother complaining about the conditions in Israeli prison for her son. Specifically she is the mother of the murderer of Kristine Luken and the attempted murder of Israellycool friend and contributor Kay Wilson. PMW’s report has been picked up (direct) by two major new outlets. Also note, Reuters, AP and AFP did not pick this up.
Here’s the Daily Mail’s headline:
Kifah Ghneimat was apparently described as a ‘heroic prisoner’ in June by a television host, who spoke with Ghneimat’s mother
He and Iyad Fataftah attacked British-Israeli Kay Wilson and American Kristine Luken in 2010. Luken did not survive
Wilson has said of the video: ‘I’m numb… I’m stunned, absolutely stunned… it’s so rage invoking’
And this is how the Fox News website put it:
A woman who was stabbed and left for dead by Palestinian terrorists who butchered her American friend in 2010 said Wednesday she was enraged by a government TV report that labeled one of the killers a “heroic prisoner.”
Kay Wilson, 52, was hiking near Jerusalem with Kristine Luken when Kifah Ghneimat attacked them with a machete. Luken, who was 44, was killed in the brutal attack, and Wilson, a British-Israeli national, was stabbed 13 times. The attack, and Wilson’s heroic tale of survival, made international headlines at the time, and was back in the news last month.
This kind of press doesn’t happen without a huge effort and Kay herself takes part in that. Don’t imagine for one minute that it is easy to keep reliving these events. Kay Wilson is a very rare and special person. She didn’t just survive, she has worked hard to move beyond victimhood and find a positive way of dealing with her experience.
Also note how the paid foreign media in Israel refuses to cover this story even when it is handed to them on a plate. They don’t even have to monitor the hate TV of their dear Palestinian Authority “moderates”, PMW or MEMRI do that for them. They don’t have to translate anything, they barely have to glance at their iPhones as stories arrive by email while they sip their “affuch” coffees in smart hotel bars.
They minimise or bury negative stories about the heinously sick Palestinian society for fear of, for fear of what? I don’t really know? Why are they protecting these sick people from scrutiny?
Specifically why did Luke Baker at Reuters and the entire team at AP, AFP and all the others, pass on this story when it landed in their inbox on July 1st? I know they get the same emails I get. Eventually, with work from the team at PMW and Kay herself, The Daily Mail and Fox News decided the story WAS worth covering independently of the news wires. Clearly at least two news rooms have some clarity about the importance of this story. Thankfully The Daily Mail and Fox News together represent a pretty huge audience.
You can see the evidence of this with a Google News search for the killer’s name:
Two stories. If any of the wires had run it, that would have been repeated across thousands of sites which republish the news wires without thinking.
This is the massive failure in journalism here in Israel: we’re swamped with more foreign journalists than is ever reasonable and nearly all, with monotonous group think, avoid stories which don’t fit their ideological biases.
