The story under the BBC headline we first showed you after the stabbing of two Jews in Jerusalem is still being worked on. You may remember the first headline was:

bbc headlinePalestinian shot dead after Jerusalem attack kills two

We then noted that Al Jazeera, after having a similar headline, changed it an issued this response:

Many people in our audience have pointed out that the tweet appears to minimise the killings of the Israeli victims and leaves out the context that the Palestinian man was their attacker.

This criticism is valid and we regret the wording of a tweet written under the pressure of breaking news. The story on the site was briefly headlined with similar wording, which we amended in an update.

The Jewish Chronicle in the UK reported that an official complaint has been lodged by the Israeli Embassy (and plenty of concerned individuals too I’m sure). They noted that the headline had changed:

The next said: “Jerusalem attack: Israelis killed in Old City ‘by Palestinian’”.

The BBC then removed the inverted commas around “Palestinian,” and eventually shifted its wording to “Jerusalem: Palestinian kills two Israelis in Old City”.

And on Facebook I then pointed out that the BBC’s piece now carries this weak correction notice:

Correction 4 October: The headline on an earlier version of this story was changed because it did not accurately reflect the events that had happened or the details reported in the story.

At the time I noticed that correction, the headline stood at:

Jerusalem: Palestinian kills two Israelis in Old City

However, if you visit the page right now you get a new headline on the same story!

Israelis killed in Jerusalem, Palestinians banned from Old City

Israelis killed in Jerusalem, Palestinians banned from Old City BBC Screen shot 6 Oct 2015

Once again the BBC is back to the passive voice for dead Israelis (Israelis are killed no mention of by whom in the headline) and a statement of victimhood for the Palestinians who are now “banned”.

Let’s also note that the BBC’s audience has been led to believe all Arabs are Palestinians and the text doesn’t explain that Israeli Arab residents of Jerusalem, Arab residents of the Old City and those with businesses there are not affected. This is really only an attempt to defend ourselves from exactly the people who’ve been coming in to stab Jews!

Can all this really be accidental or is the desire to denigrate the Jews and emphasise the victimhood of the poor, pressed, occupied and dejected Palestinians? Who just keep murdering Jews.
