Anti-Israel blogger Richard Silverstein really does serve up some soft balls.
Regarding his knowledge of Islam, Silverstein wrote the following in his recent piece:
Israeli Reporter’s Fraudulent Paris Walk on Muslim “Wild Side”
In fact, the hijab is legally prohibited in France. A French reader who walks in Paris daily says the last time she saw anyone wearing a hijab was months ago.
Yeah, about that
Even Silverstein’s devoted commenters point this out to him.
But it’s hardly surprising that Silverstein’s knowledge of Islam would be found to be lacking, given his level of knowledge on “Israel & Judaism.”
- Silverstein falsely claiming Friday is a work day in Israel
- Silverstein getting the Jewish year wrong
- Silverstein wrong about a central belief in Judaism
- Silverstein confusing a Jewish religious article
- Silverstein posting about a “Jewish law” that actually does not exist
- Silverstein inventing a Jewish holiday that does not exist
- Silverstein getting confused about Rosh Hashana
Yes, I know it’s too easy. But it’s also too much fun to discredit such a pathological hater of Israel.
One small thing though – plenty of people do work on Fridays part-time in Israel, including school teachers, store workers, and of course many doctors and nurses. Some banks and post offices are open on Fridays for a few hours too. And of course there are public transportation workers on the job.
So, it’s not true to claim that nobody works on Fridays in Israel. Maybe I misunderstand the context, but Silverstein seems correct on that one detail.
Read the tweets. He was suggesting at 9AM Friday, somebody would be working, no question. For the vast majority, it is a day off.
But that’s exactly my point. At 9am on a Friday, lots of people are working. It’s probably a minority, but unless the profession of the person in question is obviously not a kind that works on Fridays (like a high-tech worker, I’d suppose), he isn’t necessarily wrong.
He was wrong in that he stated definitively someone would be at work at that time.
As far as I know it’s only illegal to wear a hijab in public buildings such as law courts and banks in France.

You, too, are confusing the hijab (head scarf) with the niqab and burka. Only covering the face is illegal in such public places.
I stand corrected. :-/
Madame Silverstein is as ignorant as he is portly.
Madame Silverstein is as ignorant as she is portly.
once again, it is important to note that “academic” and madman, steve salaita, cited dickie in one of his books

Can you provide details? Did we cover that?
Silverstein’s comment is very odd but typical of his “arguing style”.
If I understand the Twitter thread correctly, “dovesandletters” was saying that she saw people in France wearing a hijab (indicating they are not outlawed). Then, when she said he was arguing about things he doesn’t know he then makes this comment. Aside from the fact that he has no idea how extensive his knowledge of Islam of Judaism is in comparison to her (he just assumes it… because… just because… ok?) what does that have to do with whether hijabs are outlawed in France or not?
Similarly, in this example:
http://www.israellycool.com/2013/05/29/silversteins-howler-of-the-day-sex-through-a-hole-in-the-sheet/
Where he demonstrates his “knowledge of Judaism”, the more basic issue there was that the false claim had nothing to do with the discussion he was having.
As I commented there:
“He actually made the comment in response to someone else’s comment who said: “hamas officials which is a terror regim by israeli law.” “
I know I am petty but I had to tweet the schmuck about not knowing the difference between the 2 types of dress and here is his response.
@richards1052 @dovesandletters Cause your a dumbass. LOL! – Feb 21

Is Dickie actually Jewish? After all, we only have his/her word for it – and frankly, what is Dickie’s word worth?
